Brick Calculator
Work out how many bricks you need for a wall. Enter the wall size and your brick dimensions to get the brick count — including the mortar joint and a waste allowance — plus a rough mortar estimate.
Brick calculator
Unit size includes the mortar joint. The bricks count is exact; the mortar figure is a rough estimate from standard ratios — confirm against your mortar's coverage.
How it's calculated
We work out the face area of one brick including its mortar joint — (length + joint) × (height + joint) — convert your wall area into that many bricks, add a waste allowance, and round up. Mortar is estimated from the standard ratio of about 7 bags per 1,000 bricks.

- Divide the wall area by the face area of one brick including its mortar joint, then add waste. A standard modular brick works out to about 7 bricks per square foot.
- How many bricks are in a square foot?
- About 7 modular bricks per square foot of wall with a standard 3/8 inch mortar joint.
